Water Sports on the East Coast of Ireland
Map of the Irish Sea
|
On the east coast of Ireland the ocean not a very rough on a day to day basis this because the ocean on the east coast of Ireland is not a majorly wide ocean. it is actually very much so closed in, this is because the gap that is between Ireland and Britain that is the Irish Sea is narrow and not exposed as the Atlantic Ocean. This means that not that many storms can happen without affecting the coast of Ireland causing bad conditions. There are also no cold currents coming up to suround Ireland. This results in poor surf condtions on the east coast of Ireland. Surf schools do still exist though (eg. east coast surf school) http://www.eastcoastsurfschool.ie/
There is also some inland water sports on the east coast on the rivers. White water river kayaking is popular in mountainous areas, such as the wicklow mountains, there are many spots at the youthful stages of these rivers. for more information on these rivers see, Irish white water my next blog post.
